Rappers are notorious for flashin’ the cash and swingin’ the bling. But which rapper takes the crown for the most expensive music video?  Let’s take a quick look at rap’s biggest budget vids and see how much they spent.

5) Kanye West ‘Stronger’ 1.2 million

In 2007, when the Yeezy shoe was just a twinkle in Kanye’s eye, this anime-inspired music video cost a packet and was directed by legendary music video auteur Hype Williams. So, did Ye overspend? No way! He re-introduced the world to shutter shades!

4) Will Smith ‘Miami’ 2 million

Before he slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars, the Legend of Bagger Vance’s label slapped down 2 million big ones for this music video featuring Will wearing at least two styles of white pants. Did The Fresh Prince spend too much? We’re going to say yes.

3)  Busta Rhymes Featuring Janet Jackson – ‘What’s It Gonna Be?!’  2.4 million

In the 90s, C.G. liquid metal was all the rage, and this music video took it to the next level. Not only were Janet and Busta given the T-1000 look, but the video also featured a liquid metal studio AND liquid metal backup dancers. Was it an overspend? Yes. Yes, it was.

2)  MC Hammer – ‘Too Legit To Quit -’ 2.5 million

Known for his opulence and parachute pants, one of Hammer’s videos was always on this list. The video for his 1991 release features a slew of celebrity cameos (including a notable appearance by James Brown) and some fantastic early 90s special effects. Did they spend more than they should have? We reckon so.

1) Puff Daddy ft. The Notorious B.I.G. and Busta Rhymes – ‘Victory’ 2.7 million

Notable for its cost and because it featured the last recorded lyrics of The Notorious B.I.G. The video is epic in scope and truly has it all: helicopter chases, singing in the rain, a man dancing on a giant statue, and of course, Danny DeVito.   Was it worth the epic spend? For Danny DeVito alone, we’re going to say: absolutely worth every penny.
